Mallory & Evans Supports Athens Community Through Hotel Abacus Donation Initiative

March 23, 2026

As redevelopment of the former Hotel Abacus property moves forward, Mallory & Evans is ensuring that the site begins with a positive impact on the Athens community. Rather than sending hundreds of usable hotel furnishings and supplies to a landfill, our team worked to identify opportunities to repurpose these items and provide valuable resources to local organizations serving individuals and families throughout the region.

Led by Drew Butler, former University of Georgia football player and Director of Business Development at Mallory & Evans, the initiative resulted in the donation of mattresses, furniture, kitchen equipment, décor, appliances, and other essential items to several nonprofit organizations, including Atlanta Mission, Athens Habitat for Humanity ReStore, the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, and Advantage Behavioral Health Systems.

These donated items will support each organization’s mission by helping provide resources for housing assistance, food access, community support, and behavioral health services. By extending the life of these materials, Mallory & Evans was able to reduce waste while creating a meaningful benefit for organizations working to strengthen the Athens community.

"We made it a point to give back to the local Athens community and charities that give back to Athens citizens," said Butler. "We wanted these items to go to the people who need them most."

For Butler, the effort represents the importance of being invested in the communities where development takes place. The Hotel Abacus site is being redeveloped by Core Spaces in partnership with Mallory & Evans into a transformative mixed-use development that will contribute to the continued growth and revitalization of Athens. The donation effort reflects Mallory & Evans’ broader commitment to responsible development, sustainability, and creating lasting positive impacts beyond the project site.

As the redevelopment moves forward, Mallory & Evans remains focused on building not only exceptional spaces, but also stronger connections and partnerships within the communities it serves.
